Have you put any thought into your lights lately?

Have you really thought about the lighting you select for your home or are price, durability and colour  your main considerations. Lighting can create such a difference to the look and feel of any room. Lights  can be subtle, decorative or even an art form in themselves. There are a few things to consider when choosing lights.

  • What is the purpose of the light - is it a mood enhancer, to soften a room's lighting, is it functional or purely decorative.
  • What style of light fits into your interior?. It can be interesting to mix things up but putting a rustic light in a contemporary room or similarly an industrial light into a soft coastal environment will stand out for all the wrong reasons but be bold and try something new.
  • Consider the reflections created by your light - turn lights on, consider the direction and how they cast light. How this will impact your room with no overhead lights?

Lights shouldn't dominate a space but instead should enhance a space. A well chosen light is a thing of beauty and really makes a difference to a room. I've chosen a few that caught my eye on a recent ramble around town.
